Tired of your collars not looking sharp?
Are your collars letting your image down? Flying out over your jackets so you look like a disco era refugee or is one side always diving under the lapel of your jacket? How about your golf or polo shirt collars curling up like wood shavings on steroids. Not classy.
John Travolta not!
Since I’m not wearing ties as much with my jackets (see previous blog on the tieless look) my shirt collars won’t stay in place. I was starting to look and feel like John Travolata (see him in Saturday Night Fever – major nostalgia warning: this trailer may make you wince if you wore the hair or fashions). Until I found a great solution.
Fantastic product
I found a fantastic nifty product that keeps my collars looking sharp and in place. It replaces the plastic Mickey Mouse collar stays that come with your shirts with high tech rigid metal stays. Okay, that keeps the collar nice and crisp… but what keeps it in place?
Magnetic secret
Ahh, here’s the secret. You get some little magnetic disks that go under your shirt. The tiny magnets attract the stainless steel stays, nailing shirt collars in place. I’ve been using them on my dress shirts for a while and they look and work terrific.
Scottish deal tip
There are many companies that supply them and the prices vary a lot. I’m Scots-Irish Canadian so you know I like a good deal. Instead of $40 that some sites are selling them for, I bought them for less than $10 through Amazon. (You also need some little 1/4 inch magnet discs available in local hobby shops. I got 50 of them for six dollars, also through Amazon.)
Here are links to $8.99 metal collar stays at Amazon.com for US customers and $9.99 collars stays at Amazon.ca for Canadians.
You get 24 stays in assorted sizes. (Another Terry’s Scottish Tip: get a few extra as gifts and you may qualify for free shipping. I did.)
Golf or polo shirt stays
They also have slightly different collar stays that work to keep your golf or polo shirt collars looking sharp and not curling (haven’t tried them yet). Polo shirt stays at Amazon.com
