Looking back and looking ahead to 2014 with thanks

As 2013 ends and 2014 begins, I’m reflecting on people and organizations that have contributed to our success. There are organizations such as Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), The Business Link and most recently Capital Ideas, that have supported me along my journey.Joanne Blake on Capital Ideas Panel on how to network

You don’t need to do it alone

The one thing that stands out is that you don’t need to do it alone! Through these organizations, I have built a network of connections I can call on whenever I need support.

Business owners helping business owners

Capital Ideas, formed by the Edmonton Journal, is all about business owners helping business owners. I have attended both live events and online, where Edmonton entrepreneurs and entrepreneurially minded people share their expertise and experiences with one another to strengthen bonds with the business community in our city.

Federal /Provincial business services

I took advantage of the many excellent services provided by The Business Link including the guest advisor programs, which provided opportunities to speak with management consultants, lawyers, accountants and financial representatives who volunteer their time to discuss your business concerns. As well, the Business Link library was a great resource for trends and current business books available for loan.

Help for women to build successful businesses

Through AWE Alberta Women Entrepreneurs, I participated in one of the first peer support circles, which provided opportunities to network with other women business owners sharing knowledge, expertise and connections.

Now I’m nominated for an AWE award

Now almost 20 years later it seems I have come full circle. I was honoured and humbled to learn that some of our clients nominated me for the AWE 2014 Celebration of Achievement Award. I am one of 37 nominees from across Alberta. The two previous recipients of this award were Arlene Dickinson and Ruth Kelly. The nominee reception is January 30th. at the Chateau Lacombe Hotel in Edmonton. Please plan on attending to meet and congratulate these inspiring Alberta female entrepreneurs. Thanks to you all

I mentioned some of the organizations that have helped my business, but there are hundreds of individuals who have supported me, too many to mention. I have gained so much through assistance and support from others. You know who you are. This is the time of year to reflect and thank you for your help and ensure I continue to pay it forward.

Giving back

I am fortunate that through our business we are in a position to provide training and skills that assist people in developing relationships for personal and business success. I have enjoyed the opportunities presented to provide mentor coaching to others seeking to grow in their careers and life. In 2014, I look forward to taking further formal training to achieve my certification as a professional coach and expand my ability to assist others as I have been assisted.

Wishing you a fantastic 2014!

Joanne
