How to look sharp in a suit
The suit is becoming more popular for men then it has for the last few decades.
Suits the recession
The recession has something to do with this. While women’s fashions are leaning towards more separates, the suit has come back with a vengeance in menswear. In tough economic times, fashion tends to get more traditional and you can’t get much more traditional than the suit. Trend or not, as corporate image consultants, our advice has always been to dress for success and men look great in suits.
Looking good and powerful
The suit, with its monochromatic, single shade look from top to bottom, makes any man look taller and slimmer. And who doesn’t want to look like that. Plus the suit has always been a power look.
Sharp geeks get it too
We are starting to see more young software CEOs and Tech moguls adopting the suited look sans tie. A suit with a nice shirt but without a tie is modern, stylish and it spells business credibility rather than geekyness. It’s not just for corporate business types. Every man should have at least one nice suit for “marrying and burying” and looking good for special occasions.
Some suiting advice
Newer suits are sporting a more fitted look combined with flat fronted trousers. This looks extremely good on a man with a slim build. Our advice for the men with a little bit more girth, is that a suit that has some ease and skims the body without being too tight looks better. A big guy also looks and feels better in trousers with some moderate pleating at the waist. This tip will give you a little bit more comfort and ease.
Why CBC radio is very suitable for you
The CBC radio program Ideas is a great show to expand your conversation topics and your mind . They recently aired a fantastic audio documentary called The Measure of a Man, dealing with the social history of the suit.
An audio file full of tips and advice
I put a link to the CBC audio file. Give it a listen. It’s full of great dress for success tips, advice and history of this staple of the men’s wardrobe. It talks about how to wear a suit and why it has power and what effect the suit has on the wearer and his audience. I know you’ll enjoy the show as much as I did.
