We won and so did women in our community
Business dress can make a difference in people’s lives
Our Corporate Challenge in support of Suit Yourself is over and we celebrated in high style at the fashion tea at the Westin Hotel wearing hats and heels, (Terry couldn’t make it. Just as well, he doesn’t look good in heels) nibbling on tiny sandwiches and cheering on our models on the runway. Check out our team photos of our shopping trip for hats and the afternoon tea.
Talk about dress for success
Our team which we named Style Power for this project consisted of 9 dynamic women who brainstormed and worked tirelessly in support of Suit Yourself. This is an organization run by Karmen Masson that assists disadvantaged women acquire attractive business clothing for job interviews and promotions. Their success stories are all about the power of business clothing to give women confidence, credibility and success in their lives.
Our competitive spirit
To inspire our competitive spirit in the fund-raising there were numerous competition categories that were awarded at the tea.
Guess what? We were nominated in three outfit categories. One of our donation outfits was chosen as best dressed for business attire. Nikki Van Dusen our model looked sensational in a textured ‘sand coloured’ tunic jacket worn over linen skirt with lime green handbag and jewelry. Her outfit was a nice change from the sea of dark suits that parading on the runway. (Some of the handbags, accessories and fundraising came courtesy of Princess Florence boutique)
Put the fun in fun’d raising
We also tied with another team for most innovative fundraising project. We organized a fund raising sale of gently used business clothing obtained from the closets of Edmonton women (with an image consultant on hand to offer advice, guess who). Thanks to all who donated and helped. The sale helped us raise $4600 for the charity. (Yes I did buy a few items myself. Who could resist?)
What goes around comes around
The added benefit is that we bonded as a team and have plans to work together in next year’s corporate challenge, probably on a different project to continue to support the Edmonton charity. Any ideas to do something similar for your community/charity or want to join us?
Thanks for your heart felt words Michelle. Couldn’t have done it without you! It was great that you brought your young daughter Kennedy on the day of the sale to assist us and to see how you’ve dedicated you’re time these past few months. Young girls need see role models like our team in action to inspire them to invest in our community.
It was incredible to work on this project with you and your team Joanne! The feedback we received from the ladies involved was so heart-warming and the enthusiasm our team had was infectious! Looking forward to next years event and like you, I encourage everyone to get a team together and give back to their community. There is no better way to invest your time than by offering it to others.
