We don’t watch as many movies during the summertime. Canadian summers are too short. But a couple of rainy days drove us to Netflix and we saw two great films that we wanted to share with you. Don’t worry, they’re not foreign films (although if you’ve been reading our blog or newsletter you know we enjoy foreign movies) nor are they gun-toting summer blockbusters. They are independent films that deal with real people, real emotions and relationships – the type of movies we’ve come to love.

As It Is in Heaven

We used to let subtitles stand in the way of watching foreign films but now that we have gotten over this we have found so many movie gems. It stars Michael Nykvist (the journalist in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films) in a riveting performance. You forget that you are watching a film because it feels like real life.

He plays a famous conductor, whose career is cut short due to poor health, who returns to his childhood village (the Swedish scenery reminds us of Canadian winter). We feel like flies on the wall as he confronts demons from his past, struggles with his lack of social skills and introversion and begins to slowly connect with people in the village.

Most of our business etiquette training, image and networking presentations revolve about being more self-aware of how you come across to others. (We tape it on our PVR so that we can dissect and replay the fireworks.)

High bootsBoot Trend Tips & Advice

Q. Are over the knee boots… over the top?

I was boot shopping the other day, and the salesperson and I got to talking about the appropriateness of boots and skirts/dresses as office wear, particularly since many of the new fashion styles are actually over-the-knee. “I know just who to ask,” I said.

As a corporate image consultant, maybe you’d like to blog about this (and in the process answer our burning question): Are boots and skirts/sweater dresses appropriate office wear, and what’s the verdict on over-the-knee boots for business?
